For the dog lovers

Image
6,000 words with these six pictures. With a bark ratio of 3 to 1. A beach full of frolicking dogs, such is life in Samara. I didn't realize how many pictures I had taken until I came back home to review them all. I can't have a dog right now, so it seems I was drawn to capturing them in my camera. The last one was a great photo bomb. Some dogs played in groups and some were solo. Many had their humans with them and many did not, as far as I could tell. I'm the type of person who gets stuck wondering what the dog is thinking, or at least what it's motivation is. Or where it came from and where is it going? The life of a dog. It's good to let my mind drift while I wander the shallow waves. Here in Samara the majority of the restaurants are open on one or even three sides. Dogs walk through all the time. We were sitting with a group of friends and two people were off a bit to one side flopped down in the sand and four companionable dogs just walked up to them to sa...

Lost in the moments

I have become a hokey person. I'm that woman who says that you just have to believe. The more I lend faith to the idea of magic, the more magical things happen in my life. Today was about bus rides in quiet Costa Rica regions. The bus took up a big portion of the narrow roads which narrow down even more when a bridge appears. I live in a country where there are one lane bridges but not one way streets. Pura vida. I live in a town where we can show up at the bus stop and there is a machete sitting on the edge of the bench. A few minutes later and a guy says: oh, yes, that's mine and comes to pick it up. The bus comes and he brings it with him. This is not uncommon. People here use machetes all day long. Yard work, construction, opening up a coconut to drink from it, and more. We took an hour ride into The Big Town of Nicoya. It's ninety percent shut down on a Sunday, so it was a peaceful day. The weather was perfect, not hot enough to melt my brain like last time. There w...

Oxymoron

No Ron, I didn't call you a name. I just think it's ridiculous to take a tropical beach and suck all of the color out of it. I like the irony of going to a very colorful place and taking black and white pictures.

Some people like to edit

Image
I love to blog because it keeps me positive. It's a public forum, so why would I whine and throw dirt? I love to blog more than I love to write a book, because I don't have to edit if I don't want to. A good writer has to edit and rewrite and edit again if they want to be published. I haven't found a way to enjoy that yet. So my book about a Goddess in training will have to wait. You probably won't believe me, but I tried several times to delete this first picture of me and my husband. I was just being goofy, we are seldom in the same picture. I don't even like how my hair looks, but I liked the moment we were in. Walking a beach in Costa Rica. This picture reminds me of the whole selfy generation. I've taken a lot of pictures of myself over the years. Mostly because I have an international Momma and it was a good way to share with her. I think people take pictures of themselves these days because they are trying to identify with themselves from the outs...

A Picture is Worth....

Words can be useful. Pictures can say a lot more with much less effort. I'm taking you backwards in time. This is why I don't leave the beach when the sun goes down, the colors and reflections keep going. Low tide is great because the wet sand expands the colors of the sky. Sitting on a bench to watch the sun set on the water, giving our legs a break. The trick is to start heading home before it gets too dark, unless we remember to bring a flashlight. Pura vida puppy. Even a piece of wood becomes a piece of art that looks different from every angle. We walked about three miles, and yes, my legs are feeling it. An abandoned boat. The entire beach is three miles, we walked half of it. I always love reflections. Special lighting as the sun sinks down on the horizon. Samara Beach, Pacific Ocean. Costa Rica.
