Would you believe?

Image
Would you believe that six days after coming home from Brazil Ron bought tickets to go to Mexico? Would you believe that we had a few hours to pack before leaving, so we could drive to Las Vegas that night and fly out in the morning? Well it's true. We were going to celebrate our ten year anniversary in Baja California in San Jose del Cabo. Very close to the more famous Cabo San Lucas where we spent one day. Leaving Cedar City.          Las Vegas is in sight!               Board the plane.                  Then the next plane. First view as we drive to the hotel. I did not think it would be so desert-looking, I was a little disappointed. But it was December, and the sunshine was delightful. And first impressions are not always permanent.  The weather was still a good temperature and beautiful things still grew, like this plant out front of our hotel. Many hotel rooms are b...

Not all roses, just so you know

Travel is not about everything always going well. It is about living to tell the stories, the best and the worst. There are two stories to tell about the journey to return home again. The first one is a confession for you. The truth is, even my husband doesn't know. We arrived at the San Francisco airport and we were at the gate waiting between flights. My name was called out on the speaker, to go to the desk of my airline. It felt so odd, of all the times I've heard all the names called on the speakers. I went to the desk and guess what?? I had left my passport on the first plane. I was in shock. The number one rule in travel is to always know where my passport is. I think I remember the point when I lost it. I heard it fall, but I didn't know what fell. I thought it was my seatbelt buckle, maybe. It is near impossible to look for or retrieve something that falls in the cramped area of the rows of seats. I shrugged it off. Whoops! I was relieved that Ron was in the bathr...

And the food!

Image
I am including some things that have been in my other posts. I'm assuming that the person most interested in food may not get around to the other posts. (You know who you are! lol) First meal, with a view. And the burgers were so good I was sincerely relieved. Fried sushi with a blue and white slushy drink that tasted like clouds wrapped in marshmallows. Such fun! Street food in Japan Town. Quite tasty in a greasy kind of way. It appears shrimp were involved. I lost my nerve, but I was going to try the Gelato labeled Buffalo Milk. I don't know what that is called. It was delicious. I never eat McDonald's at home. This is what happens when 2 people are desperately tired and overwhelmed with the lack of communication.  And yes, I had the delayed good sense to immediately regret it. It looks artistic and it was some of the best pizza I've ever had. I never liked green olives, but I tried it, and it made me happy. Not all cups of caffeine are created equal. This is a kind ...

The last epic day in Sao Paulo

Image
What an busy and memorable day in a big big big city.  1. We went to a Japanese coffee shop by subway, in the district of Sao Paulo called Liberdade. Some say it's the biggest Japanese city not on Japanese soil. The outstanding artistic pastry was fun. They had a glaze on, the fig one had a golden shimmer. The bamboo ones had a kind of firm gel kind of inside with a green tea flavor. In this city of contrasts, the exceptional pastry was eaten while looking out a window at a woman passed out on a piece of blanket, with the whole world passing her by. I didn't see one person even look down at her except a quick glance to not step on her. From what I can tell, life is hard in a big city for some people. And it got even harder during this pandemic. During our stay we tried to do some acts of kindness. We bought some shoes to give to the men with none. We gave food to the ones who asked us for it. We saved all of our change and small bills, handing it to the ones we could. There wer...
