So many puddles and ponds and shallow lakes in Florida. All teeming with life. Here a frog, there a turtle, and oh the birds. This first picture looks like a bird floating on a liquid mirror.
The only thing disturbing this calm water was the occasional turtle head. It was a bit frustrating, not being able to see anything in the waters most of the time. The mystery remained about what secrets the water held. Like a cloaking device, or incredible pond camouflage.
So much of Florida seemed like an optical illusion, and I loved it.
I didn't have to look up to see the skies. I will never know the depth of the ponds. The water always threw the light back without absorbing it.
Sometimes even a puddle looked like a glimpse into an opposite world. This puddle had a flock of white birds in it at one point. It was very cool.
How come reflection and mirror are the only two words I can think of? And yet the opposite of reflection is not clarity. Reflect usually refers to contemplation. I guess I spent time considering the science behind the things I was seeing.
I finally got to do the thing I was looking forward to the most. Standing on a quaint little bridge watching birds to do their birdly things, while mostly watching turtles swim by in a serene kind of way.
I really enjoy mystical looking places. This is from a place called Turkey Creek Sanctuary. The whole thing looked wonderful in the gloomy rain. I intend to go back and have a different experience on a sunny day. I will add a few more pictures from the walk (on only a small portion of the trails)
This place reminded me a bit of a scene for a Dungeons and Dragons game. I half expected to turn a corner and see a wizard standing there with his arms waving in the air. Or a gnome, or Voldemort, or Smeagol, or a Jedi, or an Omaticaya clan member. It had a wonderfully ominous feel to it. Not uncomfortable, just like someone was about to steal some Dalmation puppies or something and start a great plot line.
It feels like things are lurking in this place. It is so much fun! We were actually disappointed that we didn't see more animals. Perhaps something slightly evil hunted and ate them all. Bwahaha.
This is the best picture I have that shows the full Spanish moss effect. It is like a cross between the hair of a giant and the web of a spider monster. This is a great kind of trail to walk if you need to conjure up a dark creature for a book you are writing. No offense Ron, you just happened to be in this picture. (You know I love you!)
