The rest of Rio
So many things about Rio that were amazing. At one point we got on the wrong train, or missed a stop, I'm not sure. We turned it into an adventure, walking a new way back to the hotel (although my legs were already aching!) Yet we were rewarded for our troubles. We ended up walking past a park that was currently closed to people. It was surrounded by a wrought iron fence, and I looked in and saw empty benches and the place was full of large rodent things and cats. The two creatures appeared to get along together just fine. Some seemed to be hanging out together. The cats were the same body size as the rat-like things. Except the cats had long tails and the rodents didn'tby have any noticeable butt gear.
We got back to the hotel and I lamented that I couldn't even feel my feet at that point. I didn't think we would be walking that much, I didn't wear the right shoes.
One night we went to Botafogo for dinner with my friend, and it was dark when we got back on the subway. We thought about getting a taxi, but opted for a walk at 9:30pm. It was bizarre. As soon as we left the station exit the streets were deserted. We walked for 15 minutes and saw maybe 30 people. We walked really fast, it was so eerie. Rio. At night. Where have all the people gone??
Spooky but cool. Cool, but spooky.
We didn't end up spending much time at the beach, like I thought we would. They were fairly empty compared to other pictures and stories I've heard. The water was cold in December, though. And I got fried day 2 of Rio. Plus it just isn't my scene to hang out with a bunch thong wearing sun worshippers drinking alcohol.
By the time I left Rio I was ready to devote my life to going back to Rio some day. Learn more Portuguese, make more friends in Rio, and so on. I just fell in love with it all.
This was a fantastic old library, I should have done a 360 shot. I could have stood in one spot and gazed around for hours. I could write a book about a room like this. It was inspirational.
I do not know what kind of tree this is. Some of the "fruit" hanging there were the size of bowling balls.
