I can't help it. I thought I was done. But there are a few pictures that I haven't included yet and that I really love. It was a memory making week. Also I haven't talked about the one time we went out of our way to see alligators. The signs were intimidating to me but promising to Ron. The stormy skies only added to the effect.
There is a dot in the water, it's an alligator. Our first sighting. I was nothing but nervous. This was the wild, no fences! The sign only says if one appears on your path, turn and walk back where you came from. What if more than one climbs up the small bank to the path? No one mentions that, and I'm wondering why. We saw several of the alligators on the edge of the water, each one quite creepy. I did not share Ron's enthusiasm at all. Plus, I'm fairly certain he can run faster than me.
I know this picture isn't very good, but I wasn't getting any closer just for a blog shot. This big guy was not that far away. The steep climb from the waters edge (where he is) is about ten feet down from the path were on. Sometimes less. The paths were about 10 feet wide. I was very uncomfortable. Dark threatening skies and silent stealthy creatures gliding around. Ugh.
This was the one decoration in our creative hotel room. I love this picture.
We had decent weather except for twenty minutes of pelting rain attacking out car and causing everyone to slow down to be safe.
The dark gray foreboding sky never erupted again after the one waterfall cloudburst. It just made big promises it could not keep.
This picture is from a place that said it was a manatee sanctuary, over by Palm Bay. We were on our last day and decided to stop at the small pond and watch turtles, instead of spending time walking around looking for the manatees.
I've had my fair share of robins and sparrows. I love the big birds with their small heads and skinny legs to hold them up against all odds.
I named this fine fellow Patrick. He was standing on the hood of our car like he was trying to figure out how to get inside with no opposing thumbs.
Then Ron walked by and "ruffled his feathers", hahaha. What a magnificent bird.
Then it was the perfect angle! I took a shot of Patrick and Ron, making Patrick look so big. Patrick was like, what do you want, dude? And Ron was like, hey punk, get off my car. Patrick lost the game, he was actually a big chicken.
I don't want a boat, I want a kayak. This small marina looked pretty, though.
So many birds to give names to, so little time. I love these preposterous looking ones.
The last day and it finally got warm like we were hoping for all week. We were in Orlando at a lake called Tohopekaliga. It seems like I would be making that up, but there it is. Nope, I don't know how to pronounce it. But I looked it up and it's 19,000 acres of shallow water. A great farewell spot. So many birds all making a noisy fuss, it sounded like the trees were possessed. And then our shortest trip was winding down. I can't wait to go back.
